Waypoint originated with two challenges shared by all educators: creating the personalized, timely feedback that learners need, and measuring student progress in subjective (and important) areas like written communication, critical thinking, presentation skills, and information literacy.
We innovated around the basic idea of the rubric, the criteria-based assessment tool used by educators around the world in primary, secondary, tertiary, and post-tertiary education, and built a powerful platform that can be easily integrated with leading Learning Management Systems. Over one million evaluations of student work later, Waypoint has helped thousands of educators create better feedback more efficiently, and helped numerous institutions develop the data they need to understand their learners' acquisition of the 21st Century skills that matter most.

Andrew J. McCann, CEO and Founder An expert in rubric and assessment design, McCann counsels K-12 and higher education clients on accreditation, e-learning and assessment activities to achieve excellence. His particular interest is in science and math pedagogy, building bridges between high school and college-level instruction and writing across the curriculum initiatives. In 2003, McCann founded Waypoint Outcomes to commercialize software he developed to dramatically improve feedback to learners while developing data on their achievement. Throughout his career, McCann has spearheaded technological innovations for the classroom. For 10 years he taught in Drexel University’s interdisciplinary engineering program, and was instrumental in designing the online component to Drexel’s innovative first-year English program.
Before becoming a teacher, McCann served in a variety of management roles with General Electric Co., including responsibility for ISO-9000 certification and Six Sigma projects.
He is a frequent guest speaker and has written numerous white papers and industry expert blogs on software applications in education. McCann is also an award-winning fiction author. His work has been published in Scribner’s Best of the Fiction Workshops and he was a scholarship recipient of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. McCann holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and a master's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from Temple University. |
